Well, well, well… look who’s trotting into the spotlight! Samson is giving his mighty little hooves a break this month (probably sunbathing behind the barn again), and he’s asked meJinx the Horse—to take over the blog.

A majestic black horse, Jinx, strolls leisurely through a lush green pasture, adorned with a Blue halter and framed by vibrant foliage.

I tried to tell him, “Samson, I’m just a horse with hay on the brain,” and he said, “Perfect. That’s exactly what we need this month.” So here I am—mane slightly tangled, hooves freshly trimmed, and ready to dish out some real talk.

First things first: Hay. We need it. Like… a LOT of it.

If you haven’t met me, let’s get formal for a second: I’m Jinx, a formerly stray horse rescued by the good humans at Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County. Yes, a stray horse. Turns out people forget horses, too. When I was picked up, I was skin-and-bones, abandoned, and unsure what kindness even looked like.

But this place? It brought me back to life—literally. And now that I’ve got my strength, I want to help the rescue that helped me.

The truth is, hay is life around here. We’re talking 4,000 small bales of hay needed for the year. That’s $28,000 worth of hay—at $7 a bale—and unless hay starts growing on money trees, we need our community’s help.

"Join the 'Buy a Bale Fundraiser' to help us reach our 4,000 bale goal and fill the truck with hay! Your support can make a difference in the fields."

Here's how you can chip in:

🌾 $7 = 1 bale

🌾 $35 = 5 bales (feeds all of us for one AM or PM feeding!)

🌾 $210 = 30 bales (covers 3 days)

🌾 $700 = 100 bales (cue grateful snorting)

Want to be part of the herd? Donate today and help us fill that hay barn by the end of June. We’ll be sharing weekly updates every Monday on social media—because watching a barn fill with hay is better than binge-watching some soap opera. (Okay maybe not better, but way more satisfying.)

In Other News… the Cats are Taking Over!

We’ve rescued a whopping 17 cats so far this year! That’s right—seventeen. And something tells me they’re plotting a feline takeover of the office. Want to be a part of the action? Get on the adoption waiting list today and help us break our record!

Just don’t ask me to share my hay with them. They’re cute, but they don't even eat hay. https://www.illinoishorserescue.org/barn-cat-program

Storm Update: Nature, Calm Down!

As if fundraising weren’t enough, this year’s storms have been kicking our tails! That’s right—two major storms have already caused serious damage, including knocking out over 100 feet of fencing.

We’re currently waiting on a couple quotes to get the fence replaced and safe again for all of us four-legged folk. If you know someone handy with a hammer (or you’re handy yourself), volunteers are always welcome!

From the Heart of a Horse...

Being a rescue horse isn’t always easy. But I’ve learned that healing happens one day at a time—with a full belly, a safe stall, and people who care.

You make that possible. Every dollar, every bale of hay, every share, every kind word—it all adds up to something amazing.

So from this big-hearted, hay-loving mare… thank you. Know if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a nap to take in a fresh pile of shavings and maybe a few carrots to sneak.

With a snort of gratitude,

Jinx 🐴
