This is Valentina checking in for Straight from the Rescues’ Mouths.
I want to tell you a little about me and how I came to this great rescue.
My owners left me at a very unfamiliar place that had hundreds of cats and DOGs. Can you just imagine living in your closet? That is how I felt, one small area to eat, sleep and use the litter pan. I wanted to play, run and cuddle with my family, with any human.
I WANTED TO BE LOVED!
The days passed by slowly, and I soon became frustrated, sad and aggressive. The shelter did nothing wrong to make me this way. I had my litter pan cleaned, fresh water daily, along with 2 meals a day. They could not help that I felt claustrophobic and was just plan unhappy living in a cage! My neighbors in other cages urged me be nice and friendly. Week after week I watched as kittens were cuddled and left with their new families. I realized that adult cats did not leave as often, but I knew it could be years for me, but I just did not care anymore.
One day the humans started talking about taking me to the barn, whatever that is I thought! Soon I was transferred to IHRWC. I was released from the cage and locked in a room with smells I never smelled before. I kept hearing strange noises that I would come to find out later were horses, chickens, ducks, alpacas, sheep, goats, and many other animals. After a couple weeks locked in a room, which at the time, I did not realize was so I would remember where to come for food and water, I felt at home.
WOW, when that door was opened, was I nervous, venturing out only at dusk. I spied quietly watching the humans caring for the other animals that lived in the barn. They would quietly call out to me “Here kitty, it’s ok”. Soon I learned to trust my new friends. They made me feel something I have not felt since I was a kitten…LOVED!
IHRWC started their barn cat program to provide alternative living arrangements for cats in barns, warehouses, and factories to prevent them from being euthanized. I was deemed unadoptable because I was too aggressive, and I was going to be euthanized if IHRWC did not open their doors to all animals. IHRWC has rescued over 60 cats just this year investing in their health with vaccines and ensuring they are spayed/neutered So, check back next month to see what's new with Straight from the Rescues' Mouths.
